John Carmack wird vorgeworfen bei seinem Wechsel zu Oculus geistiges Eigentum seines alten Arbeitgebers mitgenommen zu haben, berichtet The Wall Street Journal. Konkret geht es dabei um Software, die er damals für den Prototypen des VR-Headsets von Oculus entwickelte, den er u.a. selber während der E3 2012 vorstellte.
Bereits im Februar 2014 soll ZeniMax gefordert haben, dass John Carmack alle seine VR-Erfindungen während seiner Zeit bei id Software offenlegt. Am 18. April hat ZeniMax die Anwälte von Oculus und den leitenden Rechtsberater von Facebook, Colin Stretch, kontaktiert. Folgende Begründung wurde dabei angegeben:
Ob Facebook bei der Übernahme von Oculus von den Entschädigungsforderungen von ZeniMax wusste, ist momentan nicht bekannt.

"It's unfortunate, but when there's this type of transaction, people come out of the woodwork with ridiculous and absurd claims. We intend to vigorously defend Oculus and its investors to the fullest extent."
